하동 쌍계사와 진해군항제 벚꽃 나들이

남녘의 벚꽃나들이

장소 : 하동 쌍계사와 군항제

말로는 자주 들었으나 아직 한번도 가보지 못했던 쌍계사 입구 십리벚꽃 터널의 장관을 드디어 보았다. 쌍계사 가는 길에 역시 유명한 경상도와 전라도가 만나는 화개장터를 지나서.... 제42회 군항제(2004.3.27 ~4.5)가 바로 시작되어 벚꽃이 만발하는 시기와 인연이 맞았다고 여깁니다. 쌍계사 십리벚꽃길로 김해에서 마중나온 경아와 경아친구에게 사진도 찍어주면서... 김해로 돌아가서 쉬고 다음날은 군항제로 개방한 해군진해기지사령부에 들어가 벚꽃도 보고 사진도 찍었고, 이번이 군항제는 처음이 아니지만 김해에서 진해로 오가는 터널부근의 벚꽃도 여전히 장관이었다.

722년 신라의 대비화상과 삼법화상이 옥천사를 세운 것이 기원이다. 정강왕(886~887)이 두 계곡이 만나는 절의 지형을 보고 쌍계사로 고쳤다 한다. 임진왜란 때 불탔던 것을 1632년에 벽암대사가 다시 고쳐 오늘에 이르고 있다. 쌍계사의 중심인 대웅전은 부처여래를 모신 법당으로, 얖면 5칸 옆면 3칸의 규모이다. 팔(八)자 모양의 팔작지붕을 얹었고, 지붕과 기둥 사이는 3단의 목조장식으로 받쳤는데, 밖으로 드러난 목재들이 복잡하면서도 우아한 곡선과 오래된 모습을 보이고 있다. 내부의 천정은 모난 우물모양으로 꾸몄고, 부처의 하늘을 상징하는 닫집은 화려하게 장식되었다. 직선에 가깝고 비교적 높은 기둥은 건물의 규모를 크게 느끼게 한다. 기둥 사이에는 위에 장방형 창과 아래에 4짝의 여닫이문을 달았다. 여닫이문의 아래에 있는 8각의 창은 대개 조선시대 말부터 대웅전에 채용되기 시작하는 것으로 알려져, 시기적으로 200년 이상 빠른 예에 속하고 있다. 기둥의 전면을 가득채운 용과 구름무늬, 내부를 빈틈없이 꾸미고 있는 비단무늬[錦文], 회화적인 단청 등이 보물로서의 가치를 더하고 있다. 조선시대 불교건축의 모습을 잘 보존하고 있어, 우리나라 건축사와 미술사 연구에 아주 중요한 자료가 되고 있다.

Main Hall of Ssanggyesa Temple - Treasure No.500
This main hall of Ssanggyesa is composed of five rooms in front and three on the side, and hold a gabled roof. A gongpo (a bracket designed to hold up the roof's eaves on a pillar) is set up not only on the pillars but also between them. This building stryle is known as Daposik or multi-cluster braketing style. Three rooms in the middle has two Gongpos while two rooms while two rooms on both ends have one. The columns have no entasis and are tall. The eaves are double-layered. The front doors in three rooms in the middle are composed of four pieces with a rectangular window above while rooms on the side have a two-piece door without a windows. Long latticed doors in the Dharma hall with a bulbalgichang began from the late Joseon period and are very rare. In addition, silk patterns decorating the inside, splendid and artistic colors, etc. are also noticeable.

신라말의 명승 진감선사 혜소의 덕을 기려 세운 탑비이다. 선사의 속성은 최씨로 804년 당으로 들어가 신감대사 아래에서 계를 받았고, 각지를 편력한 뒤 830년 신라로 돌아와 역대의 왕에게 숭앙을 받다가, 77세의 나이로 옥천사(玉泉寺)에서 입적하였다. 헌강왕은 885년에 진감선사대공령탑이라 추시하여 탑비를 세우도록 하였고, 정강왕[886~887 재위]은 옥천사를 쌍계사(雙磎寺)로 이름을 고쳤다. 이 비석은 887년에 건립되였다. 고운 최치원[崔致遠, 857~?]이 글을 짓고 썼는데 그의 사산비명(四山碑銘)의 하나로 꼽힌다. 전체 높이는 363cm, 비신의 높이는 213cm, 너비는 약1m, 두께는 22.5cm이다.

Stele for Ssanggyesa Jingamseonsa Daegongtap - National Treasure No.47
This tower monument was erected to pay tribute to Hyeso(pen name: Jingamseonsa), who was a famous Buddhist monk at end of the Unified Silla period. He went to Tang in 804 and became a monk under Singandaesa (Singam, the Great Buddhist Monk), traveling around all over the country. He returned to Silla in 830, was respected by several kings, and died in Okcheonsa Temple at the age of 77. The monument was asked to be built by King Heonggang of Silla under the posthumous name of Jingamseonsa Daegongtap in 885 while King Jeonggan (886~887) changed the name of the temple to Ssanggyesa. The construction of the monument was completed in 887. The epitaph was composed and written by Choi Chi-weon (pen name: Goun), which is one of his four inscriptions. It stands 363cm (12.1ft) in total height, 213cm (7.1ft) in its body height, 1m (3.3ft) in whdth and 22.5cm (0.75ft) in thickness.
