Beob Heung Sa Temple
This building is the old precinct of Heungnyeong-seonwon (Zen Buddhism) Temple, which was one of the nine
Zen Buddhism Temples in the late unified shilla period. It was founded by Jajangyulsa who was one of the
most reverend priests in shilla.
The temple had been enjoying its prosperity until it was burnt down in 891 A.D. Barely keeping its name
only for almost thousand years, it was renamed BeobHeungSa Temple.
What has made this temple most famouse is the JeokMyeolBoGung, as a shrine in which Buddha's sarira (the
calcified bead from the creamated high priest) is installed.
Besides, there are a Pagoda, a stone-tomb and sarira cases for the high Buddhist monks in this precinct.
